Capt. Chris Rieder

As a mariner, towboat operator and 38 years as a New Orleans-Baton Rouge Steam Ship Pilot, Capt. Chris Rieder has held a U.S. Coast Guard mariners license for 53 years. He has earned many awards and recognition during his career, notably including national meritorious medals for his bravery in helping rescue the crew of the burning MV Union Faith in the New Orleans harbor.

Capt. Rieder is known for his approachable demeanor, mentoring style of teaching and affable sense of humor, all of which foster an excellent learning environment for ship handling and traditional mariner subjects at Maritime Pilots Institute.
